What Is A Healthy Church?
9 Marks of a healthy church
What is a “church?” What makes a church “healthy”? Are there certain characteristics of a church that determine its health?
We believe a healthy church can best be summarized by nine distinct marks. We seek to always pursue and maintain these marks within Redemption Baptist Church.
Expositor Preaching (2 Timothy 3:16; 4:1): Making the main point of a sermon the main point of a text, book, or genre of Scripture.
Biblical Theology (Luke 24:27): Studying the full scope of Scripture to get an accurate picture of God.
The Gospel (Ephesians 2:1-10): We are sinners saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
Conversion (Romans 8:5-8): God alone converts dead sinners hearts.
Evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20): We are all called to share the gospel, make disciples, teach the scriptures, and baptist those who believe.
Church Membership (Hebrews 10:24-25): Membership in a local church matters and should not be taken lightly. We should regularly meet for worship, teaching, prayer, and the ordinances.
Church Discipline (Matthew 18:15-20): The church should hold it’s members accountable to the covenant and doctrine of the church. If members refuse the truths of Scripture, then they should be confronted in love for their restoration and repentance.
Discipleship (Colossians 1:9-11, 2 Timothy 2:2) We should engage in accountability and encourage growth in spiritual maturity. This is how God has chosen to grow his church.
Church Leadership (Hebrews 13:7-11, 1 Timothy 3:1-13): God appoints qualified, called leaders to lead and serve the local church.
